Shin Ramen with the Famous Mayo Hack

I think we all remember this ramen hack that went viral on social media after Covid—mayo + egg yolk in Shin Ramen. Back then, I resisted trying it because I’ve always preferred the original flavor of Korean ramen. But the idea kept hit on me and finally, I gave in.

I found that food hacks are fun. They not something really fancy or complicated, but somehow creative. Instead of just having a mayo ramen bowl for supper, I added homemade topping for a “well-prepared” meal.

It’s quick, cozy, and definitely worth a try on days when you need something satisfying without too much effort.

Base

  • 1 egg yolk

  • 1 packet of Shin Ramen

  • 1-2 pump Kewpie mayo

→ Mix everything into a thick paste.
→ Add in the cooked noodles, then pour just enough noodle water to make it slightly creamy (it should stay rich and saucy, not soupy).

Toppings

  • Thinly sliced beef, pan-seared with no seasoning

  • Soy-marinated ramen egg (I usually prep these in advance to eat with rice or noodles)

  • Scallions and garlic chives, finely sliced

  • Toasted sesame seeds
